Inspection of Slaughterhouses

All animals transported to slaughterhouses in Denmark undergo individual ante-mortem control by a veterinarian from the regional Veterinary and Food Authorities. The ante-mortem control includes an evaluation of whether the animals were fit for the transport or if they have suffered or have been injured by being transported. In most situations, the ante-mortem control takes place at the time of unloading of the animals at the slaughterhouse.

The veterinarians at the slaughterhouse perform spot checks of the means of transport according to the provisions on the protection of animals during transport.
