Chronology of Danish bluetongue outbreaks in 2008

  • 17 November 2008: The fifteenth outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of sheep in the municipality of Varde in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration South. The herd consists of 14 head of cattle and 20 sheep.

  • 29 October 2008: The fourteenth outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of sheep in the municipality of Varde in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration South. The herd consists of 40 sheep.

  • 10 October 2008: The thirteenth outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of diary cattle in the municipality of Varde in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration South. The herd consists of 120 head of cattle.

  • 6 October 2008: The twelfth outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of beef cattle in the municipality of Varde in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration South. The herd consists of 29 head of cattle.

  • 3 October 2008: The eleventh outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of dairy cattle in the municipality of Hedensted in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration South. The herd consists of head of 100 cattle.

  • 2 October 2008: The tenth outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of dairy cattle in the municipality of Varde in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration South. The herd consists of 66 head of cattle.

  • 2 October 2008: The ninth outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of dairy cattle in the municipality of Billund in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration South. The herd consists of 120 head of cattle.

  • 30 September 2008: The eighth outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of beef cattle in the municipality of Varde in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration South. The herd consists of 100 head of cattle.

  • 23 September 2008: The seventh outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of beef cattle in the municipality of Varde in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration South. The herd consists of 25 head of cattle.

  • 17 September 2008: The sixth outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of beef cattle in the municipality of Tønder in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration South. The herd consists of 55 head of cattle.

  • 16 September 2008: The fifth outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of dairy cattle in the municipality of Billund in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration South. The herd consists of 60 head of cattle.

  • 11 September 2008: The fourth outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of dairy cattle in the municipality of Tønder in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration South. The herd consists of 78 head of cattle.

  • 9 September 2008: The third outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of beef cattle in the municipality of Tønder in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration South. The herd consists of 10 head of cattle and the affected animal had not been vaccinated against bluetongue.

  • 8 September 2008: The second outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of beef cattle in the municipality of Ringkøbing-Skjern in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration North. The herd consists of 38 head of cattle. The herd is located in the surveillance zone of that time, and therefore was not vaccinated against bluetongue.

  • 27 August 2008: The first outbreak of bluetongue in 2008. The outbreak was confirmed in a herd of beef cattle near Bredebro in the municipality of Tønder in the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration South. The herd consists of about 100 head of cattle and 13 sheep. The suspicion was raised 26 August, when the herd was to be vaccinated against Bluetongue. Two cows showed clinical signs of bluetongue. Bluetongue was confirmed in one of the cows, based on positive antibody ELISA and PCR.
