Private import of food

Here you find information on what food you may bring to Denmark from other countries.
Private import must be for personal use.

Food of animal origin
Due to the risk of introducing animal diseases into the European Union (EU), there are strict procedures for the introduction of certain animal products into the EU. These procedures do not apply to the movements of animal products between the 27 Member States of the EU, or for animal products coming from Andorra, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino, and Switzerland.

General rules regarding import from other EU countries
(These rules also apply to private import from Andorra, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino and Switzerland).

You may import food of animal origin from other EU countries without permission and without quantitative restrictions, provided that you import the food in your own baggage or receive it in a parcel.

The food must be for personal use.

The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration may impose restrictions on private imports following an outbreak of contagious animal diseases. The Veterinary authorities in each EU country have the latest update on outbreak of animal diseases.

Bulgaria
At the moment the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration strongly advises against private import of food derived from cattle, pigs, sheep, goats or other cloven-footed animals (ungulates) from Bulgaria because of the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in Bulgaria.

Lithuania
At the moment the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration strongly advises against private import of pork of any kind; pig meat products or other products from pigs from Lithuania because of the outbreak of Classical Swine Fever in Lithuania.
